Trump escalates his assault on the party and demands to dismiss his leader in the Senate

Donald Trump demanded on Wednesday night the “immediate” dismissal of the leader of the Republicans in the Senate, Mitch McConne l. The former president seasoned the demand with a string of insults against this 80-year-old parliamentarian who has led the Conservative party in the Chamber for 15 years and has held a seat in it for 37 years.

“ McConnell is not a leader of the opposition, he is a pawn of the Democrats who allows them to get what they want. He is afraid of them. He must be elected a new Republican leader in the Senate immediately! ”, Trump wrote on Wednesday on his social network, Truth Social. The previous Saturday, the former president called the senator “corrupt” and added that he should spend “more time (and money!) Helping our candidates get elected and less helping his crazy wife and his family get rich in China.” ”.

Trump was thus alluding to certain information about a conflict of interest between the veteran leader's wife, former Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, due to her ties to a shipping company in China.

But, above all, the former president does not forgive McConnell for questioning the Republican victory in the November 8 legislative elections and insinuating that the problem lies with the candidates he supported. And he also accuses the senator of not having done enough to stop Joe Biden's key legislative projects in the upper house.

While it's not the first time Trump has lashed out at McConnell, whom he often calls "the old crow," this latest furious impeachment attack puts Republicans in a bind with just over two months to go before the crucial midterm elections.
