Toast for all budgets: from a rosé of 500 euros to an organic cava of 13 euros

The Spanish wine sector is a world leader in international wine sales, both in terms of value and volume, sharing leadership with the French and Italian markets, according to data from the International Organization of Vine and Wine ( OIV).

And cava is, along with Rioja wines, one of the great Spanish ambassadors in the world. Cava is even measured in volume with Champagne (although not in price, despite the progressive improvement in value). And in many cases it has nothing to envy, in terms of quality, to the French bubbles.

France is the seventh best international market for cava. And Spain occupies the ninth international fiefdom in volume for Champagne, with 4.9 million bottles annually, according to data from the Comité Interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne. The DO Cava closed the last year with a historical record of shipments, reaching a volume of 254 million bottles, 4.58% more than the previous year. Sales to international markets represented 69% of the total, with growth moderating by 1.2%.

Despite the deseasonalization of sales, the Christmas campaign continues to be the period of the year with the most consumption. And there are many effervescent novelties for all tastes and all budgets that burst onto the market in this period. Sparkling wines are in full fashion all over the world and, although those made by the traditional method (or champenoise) continue to be preeminent among the highest quality products, ancestral ones (a single fermentation in the bottle) also continue to emerge.

And with climate change, Brut Nature is also increasing, even in Champagne. There are more and more products resulting from organic, biodynamic and regenerative agriculture. And both in Penedès and in California, Tasmania, Champagne and Lombardy, the effects of the climate emergency on their sparkling wines are of great concern.

79.3% of Catalans consider that they have many or enough reasons to celebrate and more than 89.2% recognize that in a volatile world like the current one it is more important than ever to celebrate life, according to a study commissioned by the Codorníu cavas. to UM, from the IPG Mediabrands group. However, only 39.1% say they celebrate all their achievements and 52.7% say they would like to celebrate more on a daily basis.

Additionally, 1 in 4 respondents admit that they need something exceptional to happen in their life to celebrate. Most recognize that they often do not celebrate due to lack of time, because they leave it for later or because of the financial cost it entails. Women are the most aware of everything they have to celebrate, while those over 55 are the ones who see the least reasons to do so. 21.2% of women believe they have many reasons to celebrate, a proportion that drops to 16.2% of men and 14.1% of those over 55.

The study also analyzes the reasons to celebrate, concluding that the majority highlights birthdays and saints, couple's birthdays and births, baptisms and communions. Furthermore, women and young people have a broader sense of celebration, since for them achievements or job changes are also relevant reasons to celebrate.

Women also value the things that life gives us every day more than men: from a sunset to meeting friends. Regarding how we celebrate, about 51.5% believe that the best celebrations are those that occur spontaneously and the majority prefer to celebrate in a restaurant. 76.1% of those surveyed admit that being happy is the greatest success in life.

In second, third and fourth place, those under 35 link being successful with having a job you like, a happy family, free time and taking advantage of life. Those over 35, on the other hand, prioritize having a happy family and enjoying life.
