"The best beach in Spain for this summer is Ses Illetes". Those who think this way are a good part of the more than 60,000 travelers who have participated in one of the already usual macro-surveys carried out by Lonely Planet to its community of Spanish travelers through Instagram. And the truth is that the choice has not come as a surprise, since this spectacular Formentera sandbank repeats one more year as the favorite of Internet users.
The consultation, carried out in recent weeks, started from 32 beaches scattered throughout the peninsular territory and the previously selected islands, which had to be submitted to the scrutiny of the instagramers in successive qualifying rounds until reaching the grand final. After overcoming the different phases, Ses Illetes won by 59% of the votes compared to 41% for Rodas, an Atlantic sandbank of the Cíes Islands.
Located in the Ses Salines natural park, a few kilometers from Sa Savina, on the Es Trucadors peninsula, Ses Illetes is a beautiful spot considered by travelers on numerous occasions as one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. The turquoise blue waters and fine white sand offer a true postcard image.
The environment of this place in the far north of the smallest island in the Balearic Islands -with the permission of Cabrera- is paradisiacal, calm and surrounded by dunes where nudism is usually practiced. In addition, its calm and shallow waters are ideal for diving.
Even in summer, when tourism invades the island, the beaches of Ses Illetes -on the west coast- and Llevant -on the east coast- preserve the essence of Formentera. Facing these two sandbanks, we find the islets of Pouet and Rodona and, a short distance away, the Molí de Sal, an old mill converted into a renowned restaurant specializing in seafood.
The beach of Rodas has little to envy Ses Illetes, the second favorite of travelers. Nestled in the Rías Baixas, it boasts -and rightly so- a privileged environment in the middle of the Illas Atlánticas de Galicia National Maritime-Terrestrial Park. With white sand and cold emerald waters, the longest beach in the Cíes has an extraordinary seabed that makes it ideal for snorkeling.
Cofete, in Fuerteventura, and Es Trenc, in Mallorca, have been the beaches classified in third and fourth position, respectively. The first of these is the best-known virgin beach in the Canary Islands, with a length of 12 kilometers, where one can experience the most absolute sensation of peace. The fourth on the list of favorites for instagramers occupies seven kilometers along the south coast of Mallorca and offers a Caribbean atmosphere.
Among the beaches that appeared in the initial list of Lonely Planet, iconic corners of the Spanish coast stand out such as La Concha in San Sebastián; Torimbia and the Silencio beach in Asturias; that of the Parrot of Lanzarote; As Cathedrals, in Lugo; Aiguablava, on the Costa Brava, or Bologna on the Costa de La Luz, among others.
