The Citizen Security Unit of the Eixample police station of the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a 53-year-old man on January 23 as the alleged perpetrator of four robberies with violence at pharmacies in the Eixample of Barcelona.

The investigations began after learning that a violent robbery had occurred at a pharmacy on December 7. The Investigation Unit of this district went to the scene of the robbery and the victim reported how a man had entered the pharmacy asking for money and displaying a knife about 30 centimeters long.

During the months of December and January, three more robberies were committed at other pharmacies in Eixample. The perpetrator's modus operandi was similar in all the robberies: he accessed the pharmacy when it was open to the public but empty of customers. He warned the workers, saying that he was about to do "something they wouldn't like," but that they should be calm.

Next, he took out a knife that he hid inside his jacket and threatened the clerks to get them to give him the money from the till. Once he got the money, he left.

As a result of the investigations, it was determined that the author of the four robberies was the same person, a 53-year-old man. The detainee, who has up to three previous convictions for similar events, was handed over to the court on duty on January 26.
