They rescue a corpse in Mallorca in the area where the track of a sailboat was lost in the middle of a storm

Agents of the Civil Guard have rescued a body on the coast of Mallorca on Monday, near the area from which the notice of the disappearance of a sailboat with two crew members was given a week ago. A powerful storm, with gusts of wind of more than 120 kilometers per hour, swept the Balearic archipelago seven days ago and caused significant damage.

Some citizens gave notice this Sunday that they had sighted a corpse in the s'Illot area and the Civil Guard began the search work, with the help of a helicopter and a Maritime Rescue boat, but on Sunday they had to leave the search work due to bad weather. This morning operations have been resumed and the body has been found.

The agents do not assure for now that it is one of the two disappeared on the sailboat since the state in which the body is found will force a DNA test to determine the identity of the body. One of the hypotheses that is being handled is that it could be one of the two men who disappeared on the sailboat.

These two men, father and son of German nationality, left Cala Galdana, in Menorca, last Sunday for Cala d'Or, in Mallorca. They left at 10:30 in the morning, the time at which a powerful storm began to form in the western part of Mallorca, which moved to Menorca with violent winds. The family of these two crew members, who were in Germany, gave notice at 6:30 p.m. that they had not heard from them since morning.

The emergency services immediately began searching for the sailboat and its crew, with helicopters and Maritime Rescue boats, but the efforts have been unsuccessful so far. It is expected to know the identity of the deceased in a few days, as soon as the autopsy is performed and DNA tests are performed.

The storm that swept the archipelago was so powerful that it broke the moorings of a 143,000-tonne cruise ship that was docked in the port of Palma. The force of the wind broke the moorings and moved the cruiser until it hit an oil tanker moored in the port. There were no injuries, but there were worrying scenes on the ship.
