The woman attacked by her ex-partner in Armilla faces a new neurosurgery operation

The 47-year-old woman who was stabbed on Tuesday by her 54-year-old ex-partner in the Granada town of Armilla remains "very serious" and had to be transferred this morning from the Clinical Hospital in the capital, where she remained admitted, to the Neurotraumatology and Rehabilitation. This change of center is due to the need to undergo a new surgical intervention, according to health sources.

On the other hand, the aggressor, who was arrested in the doorway of the family home that they shared intermittently despite being divorced, has been transferred today to the Caleta judicial headquarters, where he will give a statement in a Violence Against Women Court number 2 from Granada.

This is not the first time that the detainee has appeared in court for cases of gender violence. His ex-wife already filed several complaints against him from 2004 to 2010, where he was sentenced with restraining orders from the victim and a sentence of six months in prison. But everything has been in vain.

The victim had suffered other episodes of sexist violence by her husband. In 2004 she reported the situation and had the support of municipal Social Services to take the step. It was in 2005 when she got divorced, although city hall records indicate that she continued to be attacked by this couple until 2010. During this period of time, council staff gave her full support, she took refuge in a shelter, then in a supervised apartment, she even changed provinces with her children but decided to return to Armilla in 2014.

As confirmed by municipal sources, both adults, with three children in common, two of them minors, lived cyclically in the same home, although since 2010 there were no new complaints. His case, registered in the Viogén Comprehensive Monitoring System, was inactive in 2012 due to "inappreciable risk" after the last assessment made in this regard, as detailed by the Subdelegation of the Government of Granada.

But there was risk. To such an extent that last Tuesday the attacker tried to murder his ex-wife by stabbing her in the neck area. It was 9:00 p.m. at night, the attack took place in front of his two youngest children, ages 14 and 8. It was the little boy who went out to ask for help from neighbors, who called emergencies and the security forces.

The mayor of the town, Dolores Cañavate, has regretted that these types of situations occur despite the assistance provided over the years. "A person who has been suffering this type of aggression since the beginning of the relationship and in the end you see that he has ended up trying to kill her," she said.
