The winner of the menus in a school in Alava is sanctioned after the students detected "worms"

The Department of Education of the Basque Government has opened a disciplinary file against the company in charge of the menus of a school in Alava, the ikastola Ikasbidea, after "microorganisms" appeared on the students' food on September 22, which they reported. having seen "worms." Confirmation that the food was in poor condition came once the results of the analyzes carried out following complaints from students were known. The company awarded the service, Serunion, did not want to make any statements about the incident, although it did inform the educational center that after the events it had “definitively suspended commercial relations with the supplier” of the food.

The winning company has a file open for a “serious” infraction; However, the Department of Education of the Basque Government indicates that it is not possible to terminate the contract, since it is not a "very serious" offense and incidents of a "serious" nature only entail financial sanctions.

Serunion has taken charge of the dining room service at the publicly owned ikastola Ikasbidea this year, and the truth is that since classes began, more than a hundred incidents have already accumulated, although for less serious issues.

On September 22, however, several students complained that the pasta they had been served “was not edible,” as explained by the center's management. Some of the minors also indicated that they had detected worms among the food. Education acted on these complaints by collecting samples and sending them to the laboratory.

The analyzes have concluded that “indications of microorganisms in the pasta” were found, which has led to the opening of a disciplinary file against Serunión.

This company was affected last September by similar events in the community of La Rioja, just the same day that the microorganisms were detected in the Ikasbidea ikastola.

Then, relatives of students from eight public schools in this community reported that worm larvae had appeared in their pasta dishes.

The regional government immediately opened an investigation into the state of the food served by Serunion, the contractor of dining services in several centers in La Rioja.
