It only takes one rainy afternoon for the dry crop fields to shine in spring with unimaginable beauty.
In the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia you can see in this series of images the contrast of the colors of the sky with the golden fields and brushstrokes with poppies in the surroundings of the town called Ossó de Sió, in Urgell.
To tell the truth, the economy of this municipality is basically agricultural and livestock. Rainfed lands and cereal cultivation predominate.
Ossó de Sió has a population of just over half a hundred inhabitants. We are located in the extreme northeast of the Urgell region, in contact with Segarra and Noguera.
Together, the entire municipality includes Ossó de Sió and the aggregated towns of Bellver de Ossó, Almadraba de Ossó and Montfalcó de Ossó.
Apart from contemplating the beauty of its fields, another of the attractions is to take the route of the castle of Castellnou de Ossó, a fortified nucleus since Roman times.
Count Ermengol IV of Urgell conquered these lands around 1070, when a tower of a medieval fortification was built on the basis of an ancient Roman tower. Over time it got bigger.
You can also visit the Romanesque church of Sant Pere de Castellnou de Ossó, Inside there is a sarcophagus from the twelfth century.
