The swallows of the waning moon

From Gavà beach, in Baix Llobregat, swallows can be seen flying over the waning moon, announcing the change in weather. I have captured the scene for The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

The swallow is a bird that, when seen in our environment, can indicate the arrival of spring. And it is that they usually arrive between April and May, when temperatures begin to rise and it begins to flower. The last specimens remain until the end of August.

The moon has a calendar of four main phases, from the new to the first quarter, the full and the last quarter.

The waning moon is the interval between the full moon and the new moon. Normally, reference is made to the last quarter phase.

The relationship of the moon with birds is real, as demonstrated by a study by the University of Lund in Sweden regarding migrations. The researchers concluded that the presence or absence of moonlight has a great influence on the moment from which migratory birds decide to fly in autumn.
