The shadow games of the Pont de Vilomara

It is the fabulous autumn image of the Pont de Vilomara with its shadow of the arches reflected on the Llobregat river, as we see in this series of photographs in The Readers' Photos of La Vanguardia.

The first bridge in Vilomara over the Llobregat river has existed since ancient times and was made of wood, as shown by some holes under the current arch.

In Roman times, where the wooden bridge was, the stone bridge was built, the "Villa Amara bridge", following the royal road that went from Bages to Barcino, passing through the Sant Llorenç mountain and through the region of Valles. "Amara" in Latin means submerged.

In the 5th century, during the invasion of the Roman Empire, the royal road was probably one of the routes of penetration of the invaders.

The nucleus of El Pont de Vilomara was born next to the medieval bridge, on the royal road. At the end of the 19th century, various textile factories were built that made the population grow, but they went into crisis and closed during the 80s and 90s of the 20th century.
