The sands of the Camp Nou

An emblematic work, marked by a very demanding schedule and the obligation to work with the utmost neatness and respect for the urban environment. Grupo Vivanco, a family business from Reus (Baix Camp) specializing in earthmoving, saw a unique opportunity in the project to make the new Camp Nou. His proposal with high added value, speed and respect for the environment, together with another Catalan firm (Excavaciones Benjumea) with which he has formed a joint venture, convinced Limak, who is in charge of all the work.

“We were excited to be part of the Barça project. It is a great way to enter the Barcelona market with a representative work; it was the moment”, emphasizes Sergio Vivanco, manager of the company. The Grupo Vivanco machinery has begun to enter the old stadium, now in the deconstruction phase, to prepare the foundation works for its cranes. Later, his work will focus above all around the Camp Nou. Everything must be ready for when they can begin to move the 400,000 m³ of earth planned, some 30,000 trucks, which will also make it possible to gain space to expand the underground car park.

“The calendar and the environmental impact have been key. We can work double shifts,” she adds. The work they will do at the Camp Nou has a budget of ten million euros. They already participated with Benjumea in removing the grass from the stadium.

Grupo Vivanco's service sheet is long. Among his latest works, the movement of 800,000 m³ of earth in the construction of the new Kronospan plant in Tortosa or the dismantling of the railway line between Vandellòs and Vila-seca.

The company, now run by the brothers Sergio and Juan David Vivanco, wants to make recycling capacity one of the differential factors. To make it possible, they have invested 2.5 million in six years in a plant to manage construction waste, in Botarell (Baix Camp). The objective, to be able to recover between 70% and 90% of the waste from the works: "We try to be pioneers, we are very focused on recycling, the world needs it."

Self-sufficiency is one of the identity elements of the company, founded by Antonio Vivanco just 50 years ago, starting from scratch. Now they have 120 employees, 70 units of heavy machinery and in the last decade they have not stopped growing, even doubling their workforce. The forecast for 2023, go from 15 to 20 million billing. "We want to be important, take charge of works that not everyone can do," they explain.

They have a quarry in Tarragona to be able to produce their aggregates and they have invested in 3D technology to refine sand movements like the one at the Camp Nou.
