The remote control trick to cool the interior of the car on very hot days

Most cars already have air conditioning installed as standard. This essential element to combat high temperatures, especially in summer, has the function of ventilating and cooling the interior of the vehicle. Its effectiveness is beyond doubt, but when the car has been in the sun for a long time and the heat is pressing, a few minutes must still elapse for its effect to be noticed.

For this reason, in situations of intense heat, it is advisable to combine starting the air conditioning with other tricks that contribute to lowering the temperature in the passenger compartment. In this way we can speed up the process to reach the recommended comfort temperature inside the car, which the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) estimates should be between 19 and 22 degrees.

One of the tricks that we all use in summer is to roll down the windows for the first few minutes that we drive with the air conditioning on. Usually we carry out this operation once we are settled in the seat and we start the march. However, there is another much more comfortable option to lower the windows and speed up the cooling process of the car. It is shown to us in a video by TikTok user Richard.pm.

In the images, the tiktoker explains that by operating the remote control that most cars have, we can not only open and close the side doors and open the trunk or the tailgate, but we will also be able to lower the windows without having to operate them from inside. To achieve this, simply press the button to open the car and hold it down for five seconds.

In this way we can begin to cool the interior of the vehicle before starting the march, for example, while we load the trunk. It should not be forgotten that cars absorb solar radiation and on days of intense heat the passenger compartment reaches very high temperatures. According to a study by the RACC in collaboration with the Swiss Automobile Club (TCS), with an outside temperature of 35 degrees, the interior of the car can reach 55 degrees.

In addition to the recommendation made by the tiktoker so that we let the outside air circulate before getting into the car, there are other remedies available to everyone to cool the cabin. Last summer we echoed the trick revealed by a Japanese professor that consists of lowering one of the windows in the front part of the passenger compartment and at the same time opening and closing the door on the opposite side quickly and energetically.

The teacher explains in a video that went viral in a short time that this trick is very effective when the car does not have air conditioning. He claims that the cabin temperature drops by around 10 degrees in just one minute as a draft forms.

For these tricks to be even more effective when the car is going to remain exposed to the sun for many hours, it is advisable to cover the windshield with a sunshade. In fact, a RACC study indicates that the use of this element on the surface of the dashboard can reduce the temperature inside the vehicle by up to 11 degrees.
