The Rec of the Molí de Verges

Verges, a town on a plain and next to a large river. If this Baix Empordà municipality is known for one thing, it is for its dance of death. But it goes beyond its traditions.

The landscape of Verges is dominated by large plains cultivated through irrigated and dryland fields. Precisely, these crops are irrigated in part thanks to the Rec del Molí, an irrigation canal that also passes through the interior of the town, as we see in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

Focusing on the town and once inside, we can see that Verges has a rustic touch, but careful and slightly colorful.

Its historic center is dominated, as it could not be otherwise, by narrow streets. And it is precisely in those streets where we can see everything from houses built with stone to colorful houses with a modern touch.

One of the things that caught my attention the most was its large town hall and, above all, the long main square, where we can see how some towers rise, many stone houses and, in short, a place where people meet to meet. socialize and enjoy its architectural heritage.

And, although Verges has continued to advance and modernize, we can affirm that it has never lost its history. It has taken advantage of natural resources, maintained traditions, the environment and the way of life of a rural and agricultural town.

Despite being a small town, it has some schools and daycares which suggests that Verges will not age or disappear. It has a future, present and past.
