The desire to know what happened to some of the most mysterious events in history is irresistible to some. Knowing who built Stonehenge, where exactly Cleopatra is buried or what happened to the crew of the brig Mary Celeste are trivial, compared to one of the great mysteries of the gossip press in Spain: Why did Jesulín de Ubrique leave Belén Esteban?
We know the version of Belén Esteban, who has told on numerous occasions what the couple's breakup was like after five years of relationship, as a result of which Andrea (24), their only daughter together, was born. Esteban has told endlessly how they "kicked her out" of the Ambiciones farm, from which she left with her daughter: "I was not happy, I couldn't stay there, they invited me out. The coexistence was horrible, I had an argument and I left".
More than two decades later, it is Jesús Janeiro who sees more clues given as to the reasons why he decided not to continue with the so-called "people's princess."
It all has to do with a recording rescued and broadcast in 2019 in Sálvame, contributed by Diego Arrabal, at a time when there was talk again of a possible separation between Jesulín de Ubrique and María José Campanario. In the recording, Jesulín is heard saying that it was Belén who "abandoned" his home.
The former bullfighter tells her that he never kicked her out of his house, as Belén has said so many times over the years, but that she left. "And I don't want him to come back," he told the photographer, asking him not to publish part of that interview.
Belén Esteban, present at that moment on the set, is getting angry by the minute. Above all, after Arrabal said that Jesulín spoke of a rather shocking episode from which Paracuellos could come out very badly. Belén, along his lines, wanted to remain silent "for a creature who is going to be 20 years old," but his nerves got the better of him and he ended up issuing a warning: "Don't provoke me, it could get messy."
"I also have evidence that has never been revealed, and I am not always to blame for everything. Speak, but the truth is... I remain silent for her sake, because I have a lot."
The program even contacted Inma Bernal, the bullfighter's former lover, who had dedicated herself to telling several of her bedroom secrets on different programs and criticizing him, calling him "shitholes"; and that she ended up agreeing with Belén.
The most striking thing about the whole thing is seeing how Jesús Janeiro continues telling an anecdote that would not reflect Paracuellos' story too well. The one from Ubrique begins by saying: "One day he threw me...". At that moment, he cuts off the recording, leaving viewers not knowing what happened. Arrabal, however, did tell Belén Esteban what Jesulín had revealed to her, which caused the collaborator to become angry. From the set of Sálvame the voice of the collaborator was then heard: "What did I throw at him? Diego Arrabal is here, he will know...".
"It seems shameful to me. How can you have so much nerve? If I had done that, you would have reported me. How lucky you are! You are not going to be a man in your life," he accused, ensuring that the bullfighter made him "sorry." "But you are already paying for it. God knows it well."
