The rains awaken the Eyes of the Llobregat

Between Sant Benet de Bages and Viladordis, there is a section of the Llobregat river, known as Els Tres Salts, since there is a rocky cut that, when a lot of water falls, is impressive.

After the last rains, this is the image that this fascinating place offers us, where the river flows down with great force, as we can see (and hear) in these images. This phenomenon is also known as Ojos del Llobregat.

You can see how the river flows through the bowels of the limestone rock. The water descends forcefully saving the natural unevenness, giving rise to the creation of a natural dam.

Sheltered by this natural space, testimonies of old buildings that channeled the water of the Llobregat are preserved.

In the largest floods, Els Tres Salts become a single waterfall. It is formed where the river crosses a thick layer of rock that is more resistant to erosion than the rest.

The rock of Els Tres Salts is a limestone of marine origin rich in fossils. You can see how caves are formed at the foot of the waterfall. This place has been exploited in the past, as evidenced by the ruins of a mill on the right.
