The PSOE advances in the reform of the law of 'only yes is yes' by adding the support of the PNV

The PSOE has taken a significant step towards moving forward with its reform of the Law for the Comprehensive Guarantee of Sexual Freedom, known as the law of only yes is yes. The PNV spokesman in the Congress of Deputies, Aitor Esteban, announced this Thursday that his group will support taking into consideration the socialist reform of the law of only yes is yes.

This has been confirmed by Esteban in an interview on ETB, where he has defended that the PSOE proposal "maintains consent and the criminal type" and, therefore, considers that the initiative could serve to narrow and delimit the forks of penalties and " limit" the margin of discretion of judges when applying the law.

If the socialist initiative is accepted for processing, which has caused tensions with its government partner, the Basque group has indicated that it will register an amendment to "introduce transitoriness into the heart of the Penal Code and structurally" so that "there is a defined criterion in the application of the laws.

However, Esteban has warned that despite the possible reform that may be undertaken, there will continue to be revisions and some releases because the law now in force does not contemplate a transitory provision that makes the application of the law explicit.

For this reason, having verified the "error" and the "concern" that this fact has generated in society, the Basque group considers it necessary to give an answer for which the PSOE bill could serve "as a landing strip".

"We do not understand the stubbornness of Minister Montero in not recognizing the error of not putting a transitional provision in the law," lamented Esteban, who has assured that the PSOE has not contacted his group to discuss his reform proposal and has urged the parties to "talk, understand each other and then move what needs to be moved."

"It is a shame and it does not help anything that the parts of the Government are attacking each other through the media. With an issue as delicate as this one should not be played. I say the same to the PP," he asserted.
