The Prosecutor's Office lowers the penalty request for the defendants who incriminated Laura Borràs

The agreement reached by the defendants with the Prosecutor's Office to incriminate Laura Borràs and achieve a reduction in the sentence that would allow them to avoid prison has been confirmed in the last session of the trial. The Prosecutor's Office, in view of the confession made by the two defendants, has decided to apply a mitigation that will allow them to reduce their sentences to a maximum of two years in prison. On the other hand, the prosecutor maintains the request for six years in prison for Borràs for the crimes of prevarication and document falsification for allegedly having divided contracts in the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes ILC).

For Isaías Herrero, the friend of the Junts leader, who was awarded the contracts, the Prosecutor's Office finally asks for two years in prison for a crime of documentary falsification when at the beginning of the trial he claimed six years in prison. In addition, it requests for him 6 years and 4 months of disqualification from holding public office and a fine of 2,100 euros. The other defendant, Andreu Pujol, has also seen his sentence reduced after confessing. The prosecutor demanded three years in jail and now asks for 1 year and 2 months in jail for document falsification and a fine of 2,250 euros. Prosecutor Teresa Duerto has justified the reduction applied to the defendants by considering that their confession "has been of special importance for the clarification of the facts."

The defendants, who have now benefited from the agreement sealed with the Prosecutor's Office, revealed in their statement that Borràs gave them instructions on how to divide the contracts so that the winner was always his friend Isaías Herrero. It was the same job but it was divided into several contracts so as not to exceed the limit of 18,000 euros that would force the announcement of a public tender. For this, in addition, budgets that accompanied the contract offers were falsified so as not to raise suspicions that the award was arbitrary.

With this request for two years in prison, Herrero guarantees that he will not go to prison. In 2019, he was convicted of drug trafficking and counterfeiting currency after agreeing with the prosecutor's office on a five-year prison sentence that was commuted in exchange for detoxification treatment and on the condition that he not commit a crime again during the time of suspension. However, this old conviction is not counted as a precedent since the alleged goings-on that he did with Borràs predate the drug trafficking case.
