The PP criticizes that Casa del Mediterráneo invites a Catalan councilor to give a conference

No PP official, whether regional, provincial or local, attended this morning the informative breakfast organized in Alicante by Casa del Mediterráneo, despite the fact that they had been invited, according to the director of the entity, Andrés Perelló. The reason has become clear when the event had not yet concluded: the PP considers it denounceable "that the Government brings a person convicted by 1-O to give a conference for the union of the Mediterranean."

The position in question is Meritxell Serret, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Union of the Generalitat de Catalunya, who gave a speech and answered the questions asked in an event scheduled within the cycle "We are Mediterranean", in which they are planned upcoming interventions by representatives of other communities.

The title of the conference was "the Catalan commitment to a Mediterranean macro-region", an initiative that, he explained, "wants to unite various agents from both shores of the Mediterranean to respond to shared challenges such as the climate emergency."

Serret is pleased that this Mediterranean macro-region is among the priorities of the Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union, after the Spanish presidency began to work on it. "It encourages us to continue working to add more voices and realize this project that already has the support of a good part of the governments of all the Mediterranean shores. It is important to form a common front in the face of the major challenge that is climate change," he said. said Serret.

But for the organization secretary of the Popular Party of the Province of Alicante and provincial deputy, David Aracil, he regretted that an institution based in Alicante has as its speaker “someone convicted by Justice for altering the values of democratic union and Spanish Constitution, in which the Popular Party truly believes.

“Unfortunately, instead of bringing the water and investments that this province needs, Sánchez is dedicated to whitewashing in Alicante through Casa Mediterráneo charges condemned by the Procés,” adds Aracil in the statement released by the PP press office. provincial.

Aracil points out that "it does not seem like an example for the people of Alicante that Mrs. Serret, convicted of organizing the October 1 referendum while she was Minister of Agriculture in the Puigdemont Government, is a reference to speak of the union of the Mediterranean peoples."

He added that “rather from the Popular Party we consider it an embarrassment that today a person convicted of the crime of disobedience is giving that conference. “We are facing a new recognition by the Government of Spain of those who divide the Spanish people,” he added.

Aracil recalled that Casa Mediterráneo, directed by the socialist Andrés Perelló, depends directly on the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Perelló, for his part, has assured that "the function of the institution is to create Mediterranean awareness, not only among the countries of the basins, but also among the Spanish communities, and all are invited to the forum."

"We cannot waste time on high school discussions," he assured, "but we have to use our time to create Mediterranean awareness, inside and outside of Spain. Outside of that, we do not want to hear any type of debate that is not to build, to establish neighborly relations.
