The Police intervened in Ferraz with an iron bar, sticks and extendable bars

The National Police intervened last night during the protest in the vicinity of the national headquarters of the PSOE - on Ferraz Street in Madrid - with a shovel, three wooden sticks, an iron bar and three extendable bars, according to police sources. The agents, as stated in the police report, detained three individuals; one of them jumped the security fence and attacked a police officer.

According to the Government delegation, some 3,800 people gathered yesterday afternoon in Ferraz to protest against the future amnesty law that the PSOE is negotiating with the pro-independence parties. Around 8:00 p.m., the National Police officers noticed that, "among the peaceful crowd," people began to appear with their faces covered and ultra-stylish, standing in the front row, near the fence.

The Police, in light of this fact, reinforces the police presence at the fence. Half an hour later, as stated in the report, one of these individuals jumps the fence and attacks an agent. The alleged aggressor is arrested at that time.

Around 9:00 p.m., some of the protesters begin to leave the protest site, but "the presence of masked and ultra-aesthetic people" increases. Around 9:30 p.m., several of these people "strategically distribute themselves" along the fence and begin to cut the ties that join the fences. At that moment they begin to throw glass bottles and other objects at the agents.

After once again reinforcing the police presence on the front line, the Police launched harmless smoke—not tear gas—as a warning of the imminent intervention. A "proportionate load" is then produced after which only about 200 ultra-aesthetic people remain.

And it is when containers and other elements are crossed in the surrounding streets and objects are thrown at the agents, when tear gas is launched, as the Ministry of the Interior has acknowledged. At that time, two other people were arrested: a man for attacking an inspector and a woman for disobedience.

The Jupol union has called this Tuesday for the immediate dismissal or resignation of the Government delegate in Madrid for the orders issued last night in which he allegedly ordered the charge against the protesters. In a statement, the union regrets the attack that the riot police are receiving on social networks and various platforms after the police charges that took place last night in Madrid.

For its part, the Spanish Police Confederation (CEP), explains in another statement that what happened last night, "the public expression of censure and condemnation of a possible amnesty", is "nothing abnormal in a State in which freedoms public authorities protect citizen complaints".

"The attitude of the citizens who attended that protest was mostly peaceful and respectful. Only a minority, violent and exalted and located at the head of that concentration, tried to go beyond the police fence, attacked the police officers, lit flares (putting danger to other people) and threw blunt objects," the statement states.
