The Pious School of Calasanz was inaugurated in 1895

In 1895 the Pía de Calasanz School was inaugurated at the foot of Immaculada Street. Then it was Sarrià; Soon it was the limit of Sant Gervasi. The demonstrated relevance of the school influenced the street to be named after the school in 1927.

The building marked the area with authority, not only because of the strong academic image with some classical resonances that distinguished the project of architect Francesc Mariné, but also because of its considerable size.

It was not an adventure in such a remote place, since the annexations decreed by Barcelona in 1897 were soon going to bring it closer, but it must be interpreted within a joint school environment. Indeed, in 1889 La Salle was inaugurated; Jesuïtes in 1892, and Jesús-Maria in 1897. It is worth mentioning previous initiatives, such as the early one of the Carreras school, in 1846, and Teresianas, in 1889.

It is important to emphasize that this entire group had settled in Sant Gervasi, instead of preferring an Eixample closer to the vital center. It is likely that farms of such size would be at a much better price, taking into account that they would provide an environment with a series of very large playing fields.

The founding school mission on which the Piarists had concentrated had spread throughout Catalonia since the 17th century. In 1815 it finally established itself in Barcelona, with the Escola Pia de Sant Antoni, in the Ronda Sant Pau, and with such authority that the Escola de Sant Gervasi depended on it.

In 1923 a change in strategy took place, as the boarding school opened to the admission of half-boarders, perhaps in imitation of the other schools in that area.

At the beginning of 1930, when Alfonso After the speeches of the rector father Adolfo Roger and the dictator general Primo de Rivera, the monarch visited the school.

Once the Republic was proclaimed, the school became Mutua Escolar. During the uncivil war it was the War School of the Generalitat. With more than 120 years of history well accomplished, it faces the future with well-deserved security.
