The Pimkie clothing chain closes in Spain

Two decades after landing in Spain, the low-price French fashion chain Pimkie has lowered its blinds in the country. This was recently announced on Linkedin by the development director of the consulting firm that was in charge of its liquidation, Sokoa Lasa.

The decision was made after the firm's master franchise in Spain, which kept a dozen establishments open, went up for auction last September for an amount of 80,000 euros. However, the lack of interest in continuing the brand's legacy in Spanish territory has forced its closure.

The closure also occurs a few months after the French subsidiary of Lee Cooper, Kindy and Ibisler Tekstil bought Pimkie, with losses for more than five years, from the French group Mulliez. Some time before, in 2021, the German company Young Fashion Group had acquired the Spanish master franchise of the Pimkie business, along with those of Portugal, Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria. Prior to this acquisition, in 2019, the company had presented an Employment Regulation File (ERE) for 89 employees and had proceeded to lower the shutters of 16 establishments, to which was added a year later the closure of its logistics plant. in Granollers (Barcelona)

The company, which had 70 establishments in Spanish territory, has not managed to move forward after the pandemic or gain a foothold in the low-cost textile segment, with strong competition. Lasa has also attributed the closure to the changes that have occurred in the French parent company and stock problems, which according to the consulting firm prevented sales levels from being recovered “in order to continue” with the business.
