I have titled this photograph Balmins Love for La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos with the couple in love and the solar pillar in Cala Balmins in Sitges.
Qualified by many users as the best beach in Sitges, Cala Balmins is one of those wonders that the Mediterranean coast offers. It is made up of three small coves located between the port and the urban center of Sitges. One of its peculiarities is that it is enabled for nudists.
Sitges is a town in Garraf that stands out for its well-known beaches, such as Cala Balmins, and for its large mansions that surround the promenade. Its old town is full of shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs, as well as museums such as the Cau Ferrat.
In the photograph of Cala Balmins the solar pillar stands out. A pillar light is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source.
The effect is created by the reflection of light from small ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere or that comprise high-altitude clouds (for example, cirrostratus or cirrus clouds).
If the light comes from the sun (generally when it is near or even below the horizon), the phenomenon is called a solar pillar, as in this case in Sitges, with its projection onto the sea water.
All of this in the middle of the spotlight, a meteorological phenomenon in which the clouds in the sky show a wide palette of colors that ranges from pink to the most intense orange.
