I share in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos this photograph taken in Roses, in Alt Empordà, during an autumn sunset from the beach.
We can admire the wonderful sunset. A beautiful and unexpected candlelight has painted the sky and the sea in reddish colors. A surprise at least for me, since the day had been quite gray and sad.
It was enough for the sun to appear late in the afternoon to illuminate the medium clouds that covered the sky. Although on this occasion I think that the saying "cel rogent pluja o vent" is not going to be true, at least for the moment and much to my regret, since it seems that rains are not expected in the short term in Roses.
The candilazo is a meteorological phenomenon in which the clouds in the sky show a wide palette of colors that ranges from pink to the most intense orange.
As part of the phenomenon of dispersion of sunlight, in the morning and afternoon hours, when the sun is closer to the horizon, the light that reaches the Earth is soft tones between red and orange. In a certain way, when this light passes through the clouds, it illuminates them and could be said to color them with those tones.
The candilazo is also known as arrebol, which is the red color seen in the clouds illuminated by the sun's rays, especially at dawn and in the evening.
