The number of fatalities rises to four from the bus accident that took place this Monday on Avenida de las Cortes in Cádiz. The 86-year-old man, who remained in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the Puerta del Mar Hospital after suffering the impact of the vehicle, was unable to overcome the injuries caused and died this morning, as confirmed by health sources.
The octogenarian, of Portuguese origin, was in the city sightseeing when he was surprised by the bus while he was walking along this public road, a very busy area at the entrance to the capital through the Constitution Bridge. The driver, who lost control after a brake failure, invaded the lanes in the opposite direction, avoiding several cars, uprooted a couple of palm trees and other traffic signs, and managed to stop the vehicle against a marquee located in front of the Bahía de Shopping Center. At the time of the accident, the Medina company bus, regularly contracted by the University of Cádiz, was transporting around thirty nursing students from Jerez de la Frontera who were traveling to the capital to do an internship. At the moment, the investigation is still open to determine the causes of the accident that caused the death of four people, three of whom were run over at the scene.
