The National Police has arrested the imam of Badajoz, Adel Najjar, within a police operation for crimes related to jihadism in which, in addition, there have been five other arrests in other cities and two searches in the Extremaduran capital.

As reported by the police themselves, the intervention took place this Wednesday morning as part of a nationwide operation, directed by the General Information Commissariat of Madrid and with the support of troops from the city of Badajoz.

One of the properties registered was the Badajoz mosque, located in the El Gurugú neighborhood, as reported by the National Police. The other search, according to sources cited by the Efe agency, was carried out in Najjar's home.

In addition to being the imam of this mosque, Adel Najjar is also the regional head of the Islamic Commission of Spain, which is why secrecy of the proceedings has been decreed.

Legal sources have added that the operation is directed by the judge of the National Court, Manuel García Castellón, before whom the detainees will appear expectedly this Friday.
