The most spiritual autumn of palo santo

* The author is part of the community of readers of La Vanguardia

I have photographed this specimen of palo santo for the Readers' Photos of La Vanguardia with the maximum splendor of its autumn colors in a field next to the town of Vacarisses.

The truth is that it is a very special, spiritual shrub, although in Europe this facet is not taken into account as much. But, in other parts of the world, yes.

In fact, the shamans of several South American tribes, such as the Aymara, Quechua, Jíbaros, among others, have used its resinous wood.

The Manteña, Machalilla, Valdivia and Inca cultures used its smoke and oil for therapeutic purposes. The smoke from combustion is also used as a mosquito repellent.

The name "palo santo" seems like a declaration of intent. It is considered antiseptic and effective against skin mycoses. In addition, the essential oil, light yellow in color, has a citrus perfume, which is appreciated for its properties.

Thanks to the properties of this tree species and its citrus aroma, it is used for energetic purposes to create harmony, peace and tranquility in environments. It is common to find it in incense stores.
