The Mossos are investigating the disappearance of doses of morphine from the CAP de Arenys

For months now, the Mossos d'Esquadra have been carrying out an investigation at the Arenys de Mar Primary Care Center (Maresme), due to the repeated disappearance of doses of morphine. Suspicion falls on a person assigned to the pediatrics department, but the police recognize that they cannot arrest her as it involves minor thefts.

Since before the summer, the investigation division of the Basic Police Area of Arenys de Mar began the investigations when it became aware of the repeated disappearance of doses of morphine from the center's medicine cabinet. Morphine is an opioid that is used to alleviate pain, but when consumed for a long time it can cause dependence.

Morphine, as well as other drugs, is kept under control and in a space that can only be accessed by healthcare personnel, so everything suggested that the person who stole it worked at the healthcare center. The police investigated the dates of the disappearances and crossed them with the personnel charts and even viewed the center's security cameras, with which they were able to close the circle of suspicion in a person assigned to the pediatrics department who, apparently, would use for own consumption. Furthermore, it so happens that she even went to the center to get the doses outside of her work shift.

Once the person responsible for the theft was located, the agents reported it to those responsible for the center, but they did not report the facts or summon the suspected person as they considered it a simple theft. In any case, it should be the Salut management who processes a complaint and opens a file.

When asked about the case, the Health Department ensures that the CAP Arenys management has identified the situation and has reported it to the Mossos d'Esquadra. Likewise, they affirm that the center has adopted "the pertinent measures to guarantee at all times the correct functioning of the center" and the safety of users.

For their part, sources from the City Council assured that they were unaware of the events and that they have learned about them from the press, so they have contacted those responsible for the center to find out the impact that this event may have on the service, considering it especially worrying that the person to which the authorship of the thefts is attributed, was related to the pediatric section. Sources outside the center assure that the person who stole the morphine is on medical leave.
