The more sustainable Rec.0 returns

Rec.0 reaches its 25th edition today with very clear ideas. The pandemic brought a paradigm shift, one in three fashion consumers is more concerned about wearing sustainable clothing, thinking about ecological and ethical aspects. The Igualada fashion festival was clear about it after the break and got its act together by betting on a more sustainable event. In its autumn edition this year, Rec-0 redoubles its commitment, becoming a platform for new consumption models, sustainable brands and conscious of the environment and society. For this purpose, it has created the Rec Imperdible, a space located on the first floor of the Igualada Leather Museum and where sustainable fashion brands will come together with talks on the subject and other activities.

“We wanted to expand and strengthen our commitment to sustainable fashion by concentrating the effort in a space to raise awareness and sensitize,” summarizes Marina Iglesias, one of the co-founders of Rec.0, and adds that, in any case, “over the years circuit you find many brands aware of sustainable fashion" and that, in essence, coincides with the festival's own philosophy, "which is still a last point where brands sell their leftovers at cheaper prices, from stocks that "They could end up in waste."

Thus, in this space we can find brands such as Iaios, Batech, Alsedà, Boira, Cusart, Materiarica, Nuoo, Top Manta, Floconut, Clara Niubó and Disseny Marked. Here you will also find the 080 Barcelona Fashion space with the winners of the Rec.0 / 080 Barcelona Fashion contest: Crypta, Leneim, Somia and Ga Go Ó Studio. On the other hand, a new edition of the successful Exchange Market will be held, in a two-day format: Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11. Adult clothing may be exchanged, with a maximum of 10 items per person.

The Rec Imperdible space will also have an area for talks and workshops related to fashion and sustainability. Among them, the talk "Fashion and aesthetic pressure" is planned, given by Marta Pontnou, stylist, image consultant and writer. A debate will also be held on "Reduce, recycle and recover textile waste", through four speakers. On the other hand, two workshops are planned related to the recycling and recovery of used or damaged clothing, one on upcycling, where new clothing can be created through pieces that are no longer used, and the second on mending, to learn how to Mend and sew damaged pieces in the most creative way.

In this same space you can also see an exhibition of fashion designs created by students from eight fashion design schools in Catalonia. BAU, ESDI, IED, La Gaspar, INS La Garrotxa, EADI Moda, ESDAPC Campus Llotja, LCI Barcelona and CTS Sabadell will participate.

Sustainability is therefore one of the big bets of this fall's Rec.0, but there is more. The festival, which takes place from today, Wednesday until Saturday, once again transforms the old tannery neighborhood of Igualada into a one-and-a-half kilometer fashion circuit, with 63 tanning factories converted into pop-up stores of more than a hundred of fashion brands, from big recognized brands, such as Adidas, Levi's, Textura, Munich, Pepe Jeans, Nike, New Balance, Converse or Puma, to emerging designers, independent brands and Km0.

The festival continues to protest. Thus, under the slogan “Live the Rec”, it calls for continuing to bet on the future of the neighborhood, showing its potential for transformation, demanding a change of uses with an urban plan that preserves it and fills it with life throughout the year. . Rec.0 was born in 2009 with this desire, to make the neighborhood known, a huge urban space with a unique industrial architectural heritage, declared Industrial Heritage of Catalonia and considered the most important active tanned architectural complex in Europe.

In this edition, the festival has decided to put the focus on one of the industrial sectors that most and best represents the city, that of leather. It will do so by dedicating a pop-up store to artisans in the sector. It will be located in the Adoberia Bella building, a renovated old tannery from 1913 that currently houses the headquarters of the Leather Cluster Barcelona, with whom this project has been coordinated. During the four days of Rec.0, this space will become the pop-up "La Pell del Rec", where you will find brands and artisans who make with leathers from the neighborhood tanneries: Evegé, Leather Hug Belts, Nquart, Nubuckcuir and Puntotres. The commitment to leather, which the organization wants to continue, is accompanied by visits to the Rec neighborhood, to the old Cal Granotes tannery, converted into a museum, and to the Curtidos Badia company, to observe the current curing of the leather, among others.

Beyond the guided tours, the cultural agenda of Rec.0 is very diverse, it has more than twenty activities for all types of audiences, all of them free, from workshops, concerts, DJ sessions, dance and wine tastings . The festival also has forty restaurant points spread throughout the circuit, with food trucks and pop-up restaurants.
