The more freedom of access to information, the more opaque everything becomes

Today's world - we are not just talking about the United States or the West in general - has some men - for now, no women appear - who if they are no longer above the law, they are very close. They are, of course, the richest men in the world, the guys from Silicon Valley who play with our minds, our children, our jobs and our pockets, among other niceties.

The richest of all, Elon Musk, goes around the world as if he had a licence. He is in everything and no one wants or dares to stop him. His enormous power of influence is only based on his colossal fortune, never on his knowledge, academic training or even an ideology. He can safely let out a racist outburst only to deny it the next minute. He is the master, or at least that's how he feels, and the way the world is going, he is right.

At the end of November, in the middle of the Gaza war, Musk was received by the Prime Minister of Israel, Beniamin Netanyahu, with open arms and both wearing bulletproof vests for the required photo. And Musk arrived in Israel carrying a well-deserved reputation as an anti-Semite, based on his miserable messages that extolled conspiratorial ideas against the Jews, who, according to him, want to end the hegemony of the white race, his own.

But what does a few insults on the networks (Twitter, now X, which is his) against the Jews matter, in exchange for the technology that Musk can provide to Israel in the war against Hamas? These are Starlink, that is, the communication satellites that Musk lent to Ukraine until, upon learning that they could be used to attack and destroy the Russian fleet in the Black Sea, they were disabled. And Putin and Musk are cronies, as seems to be the case now with Netanyahu or anyone else who needs their services, starting with the White House, since the Biden Government depends on Starlink for its space programs or the promotion of the electric car whose market leads Musk.

Another example of how the Silicon Valley kids spend their time occurred last year in Rotterdam (Netherlands). This time it was Jeff Bezos, the all-powerful owner of Amazon, who had commissioned some shipyards in this city, owned by an investor from Oman, to build what was going to be the largest and most expensive sailboat in the world.

The mega yacht, although very ecological, with three very high masts and no engine, initially known as Y721, measures 127 meters long and its estimated cost was around 412 million euros. Ah, but there was a problem when it was launched: the masts did not fit over an iconic Rotterdam bridge, much loved by locals, on the way to the sea.

Well, in the case of Bezos, the local authorities agreed to dismantle part of the historic bridge so that the tycoon's new toy could pass without problems, and little or nothing was known about the interior of the immense yacht. There were protests. In the end, the masts were not installed until the impressive hull had passed under the bridge without dismantling it, albeit secretly, without anyone finding out, thus avoiding protests.

The thing about Bezos's yacht is just a sample of how the masters of the world spend their money, whom they deep down hate, no matter how much they willingly or capriciously provide services to certain governments. Others, like Bill Gates, dedicate themselves to philanthropy, although not always with the desired results, when what they should do is pay their taxes like any neighbor's son. Another rooster would crow to us. And they know everything about us and we know very little about them and their hidden designs. The richest men in the world are at the same time the biggest perpetrators of misinformation, lies, and fakery. For now, it seems that there is no one to stop them.
