The Metropolitan Museum in New York is decked out to host its big annual fashion event. This year, the imposing staircase of the New York museum has been dyed green to evoke nature in all its splendor. Ana Wintour, co-president of the Met Gala, is leaving no stone unturned for tonight. The title that gives its name to the exhibition created by the Costume Institute and which this gala inaugurates is evident: 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening of Fashion' is a tribute to the passage of time, to the union of new technologies and, above all, to their relationship with nature.
Three-dimensional flowers were expected to overflow, references to Sleeping Beauty - by the aforementioned exhibition owner - and woven tributes to craftsmanship, the clearest expression of the evolution and passage of time in clothing. The first to appear was Wintour and she made it clear that floral prints were a sure hit to fit this year's dress code. The fashion editor has been preceded by one of the most anticipated couples, although little given to extravagance in terms of style. Chris Hemsworth - one of the hosts of the night - and his wife Elsa Pataky, appeared as Sleeping Beauty and her gallant Prince Charming on the museum's steps.
The Dantesque outfit was later joined by the singer Bad Bunny, another of the great hosts of the night. With a Shakespearean hat, diamond-shaped sunglasses and a jacket full of three-dimensional flowers, the artist was placed in a matter of seconds on the list of guests who understood the task.
Names like Zendaya, who dressed in a Margiela design, added a surreal touch to the evening. And magic and fantasy seem to have been the most used concepts on this night dedicated to haute couture. This was demonstrated, already after midnight, by the singer Karol G, who for the occasion was inspired by an elf, with a nude tulle design with extreme volume at the waist and combined with pointed ears. Lana del Rey also opted for surrealism by entangling herself in branches and covering herself with a transparent silky fabric, as did Sabrina Harrison, who winked at the passage of time with a golden dress full of Dalí clocks.
A garden full of creatures where voluminous structures, corseted bodies and princess-cut skirts have predominated in fashion. Likewise, the color palette that has colored this glamorous night is reduced to pastel tones, soft and romantic, as well as black and white, always obvious protagonists.
