In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we have visited the remains of the old and famous town of Comiols, which gives its name to the pass on the Artesa de Segre road with Tremp.

Access is not easy, but from here you can assess the importance of its strategic location and the value of its architectural elements.

Highlights include its houses protected against the Saracens, its watchtower and a well-restored church, dedicated to Sant Romà.

Saracen is one of the names with which medieval Christianity generically referred to Arabs or Muslims. And it is that the words "Islam" and "Muslim" were not introduced into European languages until the eighteenth century.

Today, Comiols is a village north of the municipality of Artesa de Segre, in the region of La Noguera, but on the border with Pallars Jussà.

It is located in the southern part of the Sierra de Comiols, in the port that gives entrance to Pallars Jussà. His church of Sant Romà is currently part of the parish demarcation of Folquer y Comiols.
