The Liceu Conservatory opens a space of freedom and creative diversity

The Conservatori del Liceu de Barcelona expanded its creative, cultural, musical and recreational offer yesterday with the new Live Room Conservatori Liceu. It is a new space, logically located at the institution's headquarters on Nou de la Rambla street, which has a kind of office and serves as a rest and meeting area for the entire educational community of the center.

Along with this function, the Live Room is a space that offers many possibilities for musical performances and events, and that will host a stable program combining all kinds of musical styles, from classical to jazz through flamenco, electronics, rock or other modern options.

This is the message that was intended to be conveyed yesterday at its presentation, which was attended by the director of the Conservatory, Maria Serrat, who was accompanied by Sergi Ferrer-Salat, president of the Fundació de Música Ferrer-Salat, Gonzalo de Val, head of the institution's Jazz and Modern Music department, and Víctor Estapé, academic director.

It was a presentation that also had sound proofs of the suitability and functionality of the place in the form of brief –but very reliable– performances by the female wind quintet Casiopeia and a sextet of students from the Jazz and Modern Music department.

The obvious general satisfaction was summed up by Maria Serrat in her explanatory speech: “We are very proud to be able to promote the Live Room, which has been possible thanks to the patronage of the Fundació de Música Ferrer-Salat”. She recognized that “it is a very different space for coexistence and live music, and when we just finished the celebrations for the 185th anniversary of the Conservatory, it projects a new vision in terms of innovation and commitment to education and culture. ”.

Serrat made reference to the role of the center in the not only musical fabric of the Raval: "This space joins the Auditori del Conservatori, the orchestra hall and the chamber hall, making up the high-quality spaces that the Conservatory places at the service of the city".

Gonzalo del Val explained that in addition to the jam sessions, which will take place every Thursday, as a novelty, performances by the four formations of his department will be offered on Wednesdays. When asked about it, he assured that it is a space open to all kinds of sound proposals, including rock, and external promoters.
