In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can admire the winter sunset on Platja Llarga de Vilanova i la Geltrú, in the Garraf region.
According to the City Council, this beach is "a coastal area to be preserved." It occupies about 10 hectares at the southern end of the municipal area and is part of an old area of wetlands and coastal dunes present in the Foix River delta area, known as El Prat.
This space is "the last remaining natural area of the old delta of the river and is, with the playa de los Muntanyans de Torredembarra, the only coastal space with these characteristic faces along the coast between the Delta del Ebro and the Delta del Llobregat".
Platja Llarga is "one of the last undeveloped areas of the coastline, despite the pressure it has experienced over the years."
La Platja Llarga is a strategic conservation space, with natural floristic and faunal communities of wetlands. It is a resting and feeding site for various migratory species of birds.
The Platja Llarga space is in the process of recovery and naturalistic restoration, with the aim of preserving the Mediterranean agricultural landscape and the ancient coastal wetlands that are increasingly difficult to find.
