The last pedaling of the sunflowers

The sunflowers are drying, but they still retain their beautiful color, as can be seen in these snapshots in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

Fog clinging to the ground between sunlit areas adds depth to the image. In the middle of this fog, we see the beautiful farmhouses and floating trees emerge and, in the background, Sant Sebastià or Sant Vicenç de Malla.

This Romanesque temple was named a parish church in the year 1052. The bishop of Vic, Ramon Xetmar, consecrated an altar dedicated to Saint Mary in 1191.

In the 14th century it was transformed, opening chapels dedicated to San Pedro, San Félix and San Juan on the side walls.

The sunflower planting season varies depending on latitude, but lasts approximately one month from the beginning of summer. The sunflower is not very demanding on the type of soil, although it prefers sandy clay and rich in organic matter, but it is essential that the soil has good drainage and the water table is at a shallow depth.

The cyclists heading to Sant Vicenç de Malla, like the one who captured the images, were enjoying the landscape with the first lights of the sun, around Malla, in the Plana de Vic.
