The last greeting to the sun of the Catalan skate

I share in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia this photograph taken at the Club Nàutic of Sitges around 5:00 p.m., an image in which you can see the masts of the Catalan sailing skates with the sunset.

The sailing skid or Catalan skid is a single-crew boat characterized by being a Marconi-type single-sail catamaran without a boom and the peculiarity of not having a rudder or daggerboard.

In this way, the steering of the small boat is carried out with the movement and distribution of the skipper's own weight throughout the deck and with the sheet, which controls the sail.

Designed by the Catalan Mongé brothers in 1942, it is, in reality, the development of a gadget that was born on the beaches of Badalona at the beginning of the 20th century.

At first, it did not have a sail and propulsion was by oar, but it was too rudimentary and heavy. Later, the candle was added. It is specially designed to beach on the beach as it lacks a centerboard or rudder.
