The large flower garden of Collserola

The natural landscape of Collserola is above all its vegetation. Trees, shrubs and a multiplicity of herbs give colour, texture and volume to its ecological mosaic.

In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can see a sample of the flora in the Canaletes area, in Cerdanyola del Vallès.

There are a hundred species of vascular plants (trees, shrubs, herbs,...) that broadly represent the various plant communities and associated habitats.

The flora of the park is typical of a Mediterranean mountain range close to the sea, with white pine forests (Pinus halepensis), mainly on the side facing the Vallès.

It also has low vegetation of maquis, bushes and meadows, apart from cultivated fields. It has an estimated population of 10 million trees and more than 1,000 species of plants.

The most abundant plant species in Collserola are the strawberry tree, the asparagus, the brachypodium retusum, the matabou, the white and blue rockrose, the ivy, the rosemary, the broom, the durillo, among others. On the other hand, the least frequent are the white hawthorn, the forest spurge, the pigotera grass and the servina.

The Collserola mountain range has more than 8,000 hectares (seventeen kilometers long and six wide) and its highest peak is the famous Tibidado (512 meters).

It is a territory of great ecological value and with numerous possibilities of itineraries and cultural proposals.
