The King reiterates Spain's commitment to multilateralism

Felipe VI reiterated this Friday "Spain's solid commitment to multilateralism". The King of Spain has delivered a speech at the headquarters of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. The monarch has warned about "the reconfiguration, once again a bit messy, of the world order", due to the various crises that are accumulating, such as energy, inflationary pressure and the consequences "of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine". .

The monarch has traveled to Paris accompanied by the First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño. Before speaking before the OECD council, Felipe VI held a meeting with the institution's secretary general, the Australian Mathias Cormann.

Don Felipe recalled that he had not been in the OECD since 2007, when he was Prince of Asturias, and that his visit today is part of the close contacts he maintains with other international economic organizations. He mentioned his visit to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington and the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt late last year.

The Spanish head of state appreciated "the enormous work" carried out by the OECD to guide the response to economic and social challenges, and its role as a "bridge builder" in "a new geopolitical scenario of competition between divergent political systems in vast regions Africa, Latin America and India-Pacific".

According to Felipe VI, "the war in Ukraine has revealed a new geopolitical landscape in many areas." "Democracy, individual freedoms and human rights are undoubtedly under severe threat," he added. The King thanked the OECD for its "quick" and "unequivocal" reaction to the Russian invasion, isolating Moscow, opening an office in Kyiv and committing to the future reconstruction of Ukraine when the conflict ends.
