The journey of the herds along the roads

In this series of images in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see a herd grazing with the first lights of the day in Sant Martí Sescorts, in the southwestern part of the municipality of Santa Maria de Corcó-L'Esquirol, astride the Collsacabra and the Plain of Vic.

After the morning meal, the herd retreats to the corral, sometimes traveling long distances, crossing various highways and country lanes.

The herd finds pasture in this area of the Osona region, although it must coexist with the modernity of human activity, such as the network of roads.

As seen in the images, drivers and cyclists step aside to let the herd of sheep pass on their way from the pastures to the pen.

This is an eminently agricultural area of Osona. The nucleus of the town of Sant Martí Sescorts is located in the valley of the Riera de Sant Martí and is built around the parish church that gives it its name. A whole series of farmhouses are scattered along the ridges and valleys around it.

Its terminus extends to the east from the valley that by Vallbona and Vilaporta culminates with the house and chapel of Santa Margarida; to the west from the royal road that goes up from Les Masies de Roda and goes towards Bellmunt and Vidrà; to the north from the Eix Vic-Olot and to the south it ends with the well-known Salt del Cabrit, where the stream of Sant Martí rushes into that of Las Gorgues and into the Sau swamp, in front of the monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres.
