The immortal cat by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer

I share in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia this photograph taken on the outskirts of the city of Soria, in an incomparable place next to the Duero River and the Romanesque cloister of San Juan.

We see how the poet Bécquer rests on a log with his gaze lost and a cat watches him without taking its eyes off him; Perhaps the poet has him enthralled while he recites a verse.

The sculpture is located in a garden located between the old Fielato and the access to the arches of San Juan de Duero, which served as inspiration for Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer (1836 - 1870) for his legend The Moonbeam.

It is a work of public art made in bronze by the artist Ricardo González at the foot of Monte de las Ánimas, where the romantic poet shares space with the cat.

To make this sculpture, around 350 kilograms of bronze were used, divided into 25 pieces that had to be welded and which ended up giving life to the figure of Bécquer.

Since 2021, Soria has two elements of tribute to Bécquer. On the one hand, this statue of the poet, and, on the other, the recreation of a Templar cemetery inspired by his immortal legend El monte de las Ánimas.

The sculptural group shows Bécquer in full body, based on the drawing that his brother Valeriano Bécquer made of him, with the clothing typical of the 19th century, with proportions corresponding to an approximate upright height of 1.84 meters (actual height of the poet). , sitting on a log, with a period hat, leaving an empty space next to the image that allows interaction with the viewer. And with the cat.
