I have captured these photographs for The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia of the fantastic monolith of La Falconera that rises in Sant Llorenç del Munt.
It is a lookout point for all of Bages and Berguedà, as well as overlooking the Vallès. Falcons nest here, hence the name Falconera ("falcón" is halcón, in Catalan). At the time when the eggs are laid, climbing is prohibited.
This spectacular and unique monolith is located on the northwest slope of Sant Llorenç del Munt. It stands alone, separated from the rest, so its peculiar shape stands out prominently above the Sot de la Ferestega, on the west side, and the Clot d'Estenalles, on the east side.
With a height of 857.2 meters, climbers consider it the big wall of Sant Llorenç del Munt. But, it is not the only one. About 140 meters to the south is the Miranda (846.7 meters), another monolithic rock that is part of the same cliff as the Falconera and with which it shares the same geological stratification.
The Falconera, together with Roca Salvatge, is the steepest wall of the massif and, thanks to its wide width, it has become a favorable terrain for the opening of a good number of climbing itineraries.
