The Government asks to avoid road trips in Madrid by the DANA

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda has recommended through social networks to avoid road travel in Madrid, Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha due to the forecast of heavy rains -announced by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) - which may affect these parts of Spain this afternoon due to the phenomenon of isolated depression at high levels (DANA). The mayor of Madrid has asked its citizens to remain at home and avoid travel. Even the soccer league match that Atlético de Madrid and Sevilla had to play this afternoon in the Spanish capital has been postponed due to the forecast of heavy downpours.

This morning the Aemet activated the red alert in the Community of Madrid and in Castilla-La Mancha due to the "extreme risk" due to torrential rains due to the forecast of rainfall of up to 120 liters per square meter in 12 hours.

It is expected that the areas most affected by the rains, which according to Aemet could be torrential, are the southern, vegas and western areas of the Community of Madrid, as well as the mountains and the metropolitan area, and La Mancha in Toledo in Castilla-La Stain.

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, this morning asked the citizens of the capital to "stay at home and minimize their travel" this day in view of the "exceptional situation" that is expected this afternoon in the city, as the predictions announce a historical record of precipitations.

In a coordination meeting at the Integrated Security and Emergency Center (Cisem), the councilor explained that cleaning and maintenance work has been carried out in the city since Friday. In addition, municipal facilities such as sports centers or cultural centers will be closed, as well as tunnels with no alternative on the surface.

The objective is that the emergency services can "work and travel" in the face of the extraordinary situation that is expected for this afternoon in Madrid due to the heavy rains.

For this reason, the first mayor has called on citizens not to go out into the streets and to remain in their homes, unless it is essential to travel.

At the same time, the Security and Emergency, Samur Social, Samur Civil Protection, Firefighters and Municipal Police teams will be reinforced to deal with the day of heavy rainfall.

The only tunnels that will remain open are those on Madrid Calle 30, as there is an alternative on the surface.

The objective of these measures is to make it easier for emergency services to work and move around the city in the face of the extreme rains that are expected.

For all these reasons, the mayor has asked citizens to stay at home and avoid unnecessary outings so as not to hinder the work of the emergency teams.

For its part, LaLiga has postponed the Atlético de Madrid-Sevilla match scheduled for this Sunday (6:30 p.m.) due to the red alert decreed by Aemet in Madrid and after consulting with the Spanish Football Federation, the Higher Sports Council (CSD) and both clubs.

As reported by LaLiga in a statement around two in the afternoon this Sunday, the meeting has been postponed following the recommendations of the Madrid City Council and due to the extraordinary weather situation in the capital.

In the same way, the DGT has asked this Sunday for "a lot of caution" on the roads, where the effects of the floods caused by the intense rains are already noticeable, and even to avoid travel in the Community of Madrid and neighboring areas. where the red alert level has been activated.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m., the heavy rainfall associated with the DANA that has afflicted a large part of the country since yesterday was already cutting off numerous roads, the DGT reported.

Thus, during the day, different roads of the secondary network have been affected: in Castellón the N-340 has been cut in Vinaròs; in Valencia, the V-31 in Silla; in Tarragona on the T-331 and C12 in Tortosa, the N-340 in Alcanar and the TV-3443 in Amposta.

In Toledo on the CN-15, the N-410 in Tembleque and on the TO 3077 in Villacañas.
