The heatwave, the period between July 15 and August 15 that is considered the hottest of the year, will begin with thermal drops throughout the country with the exception of the Mediterranean, despite the fact that eight communities will be on alert for high temperatures. A truce that will not last long, since on Sunday the thermometers are expected to rise again, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
The provinces where the greatest thermal rises will be registered will be Murcia, Albacete, Córdoba, Granada, Lleida and Zaragoza, with temperatures that will reach 39 degrees. While on Sunday the heat is expected to be more intense in Ciudad Real, Jaén and Seville. Predictably, in Córdoba the mercury will exceed 40 degrees.
“We have a few days ahead of us with thermal ascents and descents. During the weekend, temperatures are going to be somewhat lower than normal in the western third of the peninsula and somewhat higher in the eastern third, that is, the Mediterranean and Balearic regions," explained Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the Aemet. He also added that in the Canary Islands "little by little the situation will return to normal".
However, the weather forecast indicates that next week will begin with a thermal rise in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, which will take the thermometers to values between 5 and 10 degrees higher than normal for the time of year in large areas of the peninsula except the western third. . Thus, it could exceed 40 degrees in large areas of the center, south and east of the peninsula and in some parts of Mallorca. The intense heat will begin to loosen from Wednesday, although with an environment still very warm in general, except in the northern third and in the northwest of the peninsula.
In Andalusia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Murcia, Valencia and the Canary Islands, today they continue to be on alert due to the high temperatures, up to 39 degrees, which will be recorded throughout the day. In addition, a "yellow" warning (risk) has been activated in Catalonia -in the Ampurdán area (Girona)- due to the strong intervals of wind that are going to be recorded on the coast; and in the Canary Islands due to the strong wind and waves on the islands of Gran Canaria, Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife.
