The Eiffel Tower reopened after being evacuated due to a bomb alert

The emblematic Eiffel Tower in Paris returned to normal after being evacuated today for about two hours as a result of a bomb threat alert that turned out to be false, sources from the society that operates the monument confirmed to EFE.

The evacuation of the tower took place around 1:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. GMT) and the area was temporarily closed to the public, with nearby traffic also cut off.

It was a "precautionary measure", according to what police sources told local media at the time, and the origin of the bomb threat was unknown.

Approximately two hours later, the security forces lifted the alert and the reopening to the public began, sources from the Eiffel Tower Exploitation Society (SETE) told EFE.

The evacuation affected both the three floors of the tower and the restaurant and the square around the structure, 330 meters high and located in the VII district of Paris.

With almost six million visitors in 2022, the iconic iron tower is one of the most frequented monuments in the world.
