The DGT forecasts almost nine million trips this weekend

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) forecasts a total of 8,780,000 road trips this weekend, 49,339,000 throughout the month of August, and to "give coverage" to the movements planned for these days it has activated the 'Special Operation August 1', which will be in force until midnight on Tuesday, August 1. For the moment, there have been no notable complications, although this Saturday morning there is slow traffic on the AP-7 in the province of Barcelona towards Tarragona, on the A-1 in Treviño County and on the AP-1 in the entrance to Victoria

The DGT stressed in a statement that this weekend the movements of vehicles generated by the beginning of the holiday month of August, long-distance movements in the direction of departure from large urban centers, will coincide with those of return of those that end their vacations in the month of July, together with the usual departure or return trips during the summer weekend.

With regard to the traffic forecasts prepared by Traffic, these contemplate that on Saturday morning, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., there will be “intense” traffic leaving urban centers and on routes that link coastal towns, beaches and accesses to the coast, as well as areas of second residence that may have "circulation problems and retentions in their accesses". In the evening, it will also be possible to observe movements of return to the big cities of those who finish their vacations in the month of July and bring their return forward to this day.

On Sunday morning, the accesses to the coast and the roads that connect coastal towns with access to beaches will be "conflictive" and, in the afternoon, "especially" between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., the return of both those who have enjoyed the summer weekend, like those who end their vacations in the month of July presenting "high intensities" of traffic and circulation "problems" on the main communication road axes that "channel" all the return movement from the tourist areas of the coast, rest and second residences, towards the accesses of the large urban centers.

On Monday the 31st, the “usual” movements in and out of large cities on a working day will coincide, with movements out, between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., due to the beginning of the holiday month of August.

Finally, on Tuesday, August 1, there could be a "greater intensity" of traffic in the outbound direction, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., due to the start of the tourist season for apartments, hotels, and places of residence this month, which they will join the usual entry and exit times at rush hour because it is a working day.

In this context, Traffic has established a series of traffic regulation, management and surveillance measures in order to "provide security coverage for the millions of short and long-distance journeys planned".

As is "frequent" in special traffic operations, with the aim of "favoring" circulation in the "most conflictive" areas, reversible and additional lanes with cones will be installed in the hours of "greatest traffic flow" and alternative itineraries will be established .

Likewise, works on the roads will be stopped, the holding of sports events and other events that involve the occupation of the road will be limited and the circulation of trucks in general and those that transport certain goods will be restricted in certain sections, dates and times.

To "provide cover" for this operation and "make all these movements safe", Traffic has the "maximum availability" of its human resources, including agents from the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard (ATGC), official personnel of the eight Traffic Management Centers and personnel in charge of maintaining equipment and installing road measures, in addition to emergency services personnel.

Regarding material resources, the DGT has 780 fixed speed control radars, of which 92 are section, 545 mobile radars that can be carried on ATGC vehicles, 245 cameras and 15 camouflaged vans to control use. mobile phone and seat belt.

In parallel, the DGT also has helicopters and drones for surveillance from the air and unmarked vehicles and motorcycles that will circulate on all types of roads in order to "verify the correct behavior of drivers while driving."
