The dawn of the butterflies

A beautiful dawn has been born, without haze and a soft wind, which has made us see many butterflies, which has allowed me to capture these images for The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

Butterflies have attracted our attention since ancient times due to their variety of colours, the fascinating patterns on their wings and their relationship to flowers, which is clear in these snapshots taken in Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà, in the Osona region.

The butterflies are diurnal (the nocturnal ones are the moths). And it is during the day when we can enjoy its extraordinary colors.

The wing surface is covered with scales and has a multitude of longitudinal edges (separated sometimes by less than a thousandth of a millimeter) that alter the reflection of light. This produces very striking colors and often shimmering and iridescent.

Most butterflies feed by sucking, that is, absorbing nectar or other liquid substances through their licking-sucking mouthparts (spiritrompa).
