The danger of the late athlete

Dangerous. Those who decide to become risky athletes when they are older are just that, an enormous danger. And too many times an added expense for public health and for specialized rescue groups that, suddenly, seem to only work for them. They are the ones who, carried away by their late blooming and almost always coinciding with those vital crises that hit around 40 (but can come much sooner or later), suddenly dare to climb the highest mountains. And they face them without consulting forecasts and wow! with any shoe. What more will one shoe or another give?

There are legions of those who like to pedal (at ten per hour uphill and at full speed and invading because they want and because they can the opposite lane on the downhills) on the narrowest roads lined with curves and ravines, where only they and they were missing. their group adrenaline enthusiasm. And there is also an unstoppable boom of marathoners, dedicated runners who regret that no one before had glimpsed their undeniable talent. They understand at least that forty-odd kilometers is a lot to cover at once. And they go little by little. Training carefully. The bad thing is that too many times they forget the need for a good medical check-up and that, at their age, it would not hurt to include an echocardio in the check-up.

The danger of these elderly supermen extends on the snow (those tired skiers who barely master the wedge but feel that only off-piste is enough for them) or in the open sea, where many try to emulate Diana Nyad (at 64 she stroked 53 hours between Cuba and Florida) although his sporting experience is summarized in the 25 meter front crawl certificate that all of us boomers obtained in school. And since they are so brave, they may go alone and without a buoy, and why not? in a bikini!, without having any idea what a kilojoule is, how to get rid of currents or which jellyfish can be rabid or even deadly.

More collected options? Boxing. Bootcamp. Acrobatic yoga. Fencing. Or carve your leg like Zuckerberg to show that you are the revelation of MMA at 39 years old. How about a little common sense and leave the adrenaline for video games?
