The cormorant chooses the mouth of the Besòs

In La Vanguardia Readers' Photos we can see this series of images of the cormorant enjoying the water of the Besòs River with the iconic Three Chimneys of Sant Adrià in the background.

The cormorant has chosen the mouth of the Besòs and if it has done so it is proof that the sanitation of the final stretch of the river is an increasingly verifiable fact.

The cormorant captures fish by propelling itself with its legs and diving for more than a minute in the water, reaching a depth of 10 meters. When it comes out of the water it needs to dry its wings in the sun, like the specimen we see in Besòs does.

Since the mid-90s, the Besòs River has undergone a process of regeneration of its fauna and flora, which has involved the purification of its waters. The ecological recovery of the river has attracted, above all, birds and fish.

Taking advantage of the urban remodeling of the Barcelona Universal Forum of Cultures, the Besòs River Park was inaugurated, located between Barcelona, Santa Coloma de Gramanet and Sant Adrià de Besòs.

In particular, birds have once again occupied their place of wild life and freedom in this river that flows between highly populated urban centers in its final stretch until it reaches the Mediterranean Sea.

Today it is a widely used place for walks and leisure activities, which coexists with the fauna and flora of this river that is increasingly filled with life.
