The Community of Madrid will not act after the file for the sexist chants of Elías Ahuja

The Community of Madrid has abstained from the controversy related to the Elías Ahuja Residence Hall and will limit itself to "respecting" the decision of the Prosecutor's Office to close the investigation that it opened for the macho insults uttered by its residents.

This has been confirmed by the vice president and spokesman for the Community of Madrid, Enrique Ossorio, recalling that "in terms of universities, the principle of university autonomy governs. The Community of Madrid cannot carry out actions on this matter", has specified the also counselor of Education and Universities at the press conference after the Governing Council.

Ossorio recalled that as a result of this investigation, an amendment was introduced in the processing of the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU) by virtue of which it is prohibited that residence halls that segregate by sex can be attached to public universities.

"Now the Prosecutor's Office comes and says that nothing happened in the Ahuja. This is how it is legislated in Spain," criticized the counselor. "The fault lies with whoever passes by, like the sexist judges or other types of people," he ironized.

The Prosecutor's Office considers that the macho screams uttered in October 2022 by residents of the Elías Ahuja Residence Hall in Madrid are "an attack on the dignity" of women, although they cannot be considered a hate crime or be punished with the law of only yes is yes because this rule came into effect five days later.

With these arguments, the Madrid Prosecutor's Office has archived the investigation that it opened for the insults that a group of residents of this hall of residence -who were expelled after the video went viral on networks- launched on October 2 of last year against students from another nearby center, the Santa Monica residence hall.
