The Committee of Referees will retire Mateu Lahoz and Del Cerro Grande

Mateu Lahoz and Del Cerro Grande will not continue as referees on the pitch next season. The Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) has decided to retire both coaches, 46 and 47 years old, and has already informed them of its decision. Despite the lack of officialization, the most veteran referees in Spanish football will finish their career this course.

For some years now there has been no age limit for retirement in arbitration and it is the Technical Commission that decides which referees are relegated at the end of the season or those who cease to be so due to a matter of age.

Despite the absence of an age to end the arbitration career, the idea of the establishment is that they stop their activity at the latest at 46 years of age. The objective is none other than to allow the new generations of referees to climb to the highest category.

For this reason, both Mateu Lahoz and Del Cerro Grande, who would have reached their age, must leave arbitration. Last summer there was an exception with Del Cerro, since at 46 he was allowed to continue. The man from Madrid opted to be able to attend the World Cup in Qatar, which Mateu Lahoz finally attended. In addition, the man from Madrid justified his continuity due to the great level he exhibited last season 2021-2022.
