The climb to Malniu lake

There is a very popular route to Lake Malniu, which not only brings you closer to a wonderful landscape, but is so simple that it can be done without problems with children, despite being at more than 2,000 meters above sea level.

Al Refugio de Malniu (2,130 meters), which is reached by a 10 km forest track that starts from the town of Meranges.

This linear route of almost 3 km in length (round trip) goes up a path to the wooded Sierra del Home Mort and reaches the Malniu pond. We return by the same path.

The lake of glacial origin in Malniu is surrounded by pine trees and granite blocks. It is the jewel in the crown of the Puigpedrós massif, which with its 2915 meters of height dominates all of Cerdanya and forms the border with France.

Its easy and quick access from the Malniu refuge have made it a very busy and sometimes even crowded place. However, he always has an indisputable charm, as can be seen in these photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

As a reference, the Malniu refuge is located at the foot of Puigpedrós, the highest peak in Catalan Cerdanya, and within the Cerdanya - Alt Urgell National Reserve, in the municipality of Meranges. It is a wooded area, with sections where large blocks of granite scree are found.

Maranges is located on the border with France. As a curiosity, it must be taken into account that, with its 1,539 meters of altitude, it is the highest municipal capital in Catalonia.
